A borderland, long disputed, and therefore often wounded by war. Collio and Brda are today respectively part of Italy and Slovenia, yet they share many stages of their cultural, identity and even political journey, from the times of the medieval Patriarchate of Aquileia to the more recent times of the Habsburg Empire. But the frontiers imposed by man, in all epochs, cancel out when it is geology that speaks, which in effect unites Collio and Brda in a single history. Hence one and the same soil, which at a distance of a few kilometers takes the names of ponca (Italian-style) and opoka (Slovenian-style). Alfredo Blessano, an expert taster and Friulian doc, will do the honors: in collaboration with two historic institutions, the Enoteca provinciale di Cormòns and Vinoteka Brda, we will travel to discover the native whites that are produced among the cross-border hills to the east of the Boot.
